Berkshire Summer Kaleidoscope

Theater life at Alma Mater never stops, not even in summer. For the fourth year in a row, our summer belonged entirely to our wonderful theater camp, held as always in the Berkshires, this year from July 12 to July 26.

If you haven't joined us yet, now is the perfect time to get to know us and become part of our international children's summer program in the beautiful Berkshires, with lodging on the campus of a private boarding school.

In just two weeks, our young actors put on four productions: The improv show "And Baba Yaga Is Against It," directed by Andrey Kuznetsov, director and improvisation instructor; The jazz-and-dance musical "Pippi Longstocking," under the thoughtful guidance of ballerina, director, and teacher Irina Chernaya; The musical "Little Shop of Horrors," directed by Broadway performer, director, and teacher Igor Portnoy; and The light-and-dance production "Lullaby for Mom," created with the incomparable Sasha Sinai, director and artistic director of Smile Group Theatre.

The performances were simply magnificent! It is a true joy to watch our young actors grow more professional every year, thanks to the hard work of our irreplaceable artists, teachers, and professionals.

With a unique, action-packed program of sports and brain games, karaoke and dancing, a spectacular ball, an adventure quest, and, to top it all off, a campfire and a mountain hike, the camp was friendly, lively, warm, and unforgettable. The kids made their own costumes and sets and created mini-performances in a variety of genres: Westerns, musicals, Bollywood, horror, and even real science fiction!

And what a great lineup of electives we had: dance; journalism, where the kids produced real video reports; art, where they created one-of-a-kind masterpieces; outdoor sports; a beading workshop for young craft lovers; and even juggling!

Like so many others, we were swept up in World Cup fever. The whole camp cheered together, even if not always for the same team. These days were so full of activities and emotions that it's impossible to describe everything or truly capture the atmosphere in words. You had to see the sparkle in the children's eyes. To really understand it, you had to be there!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the camp: every child, teacher, counselor, and colleague! And a huge thank-you to all our parents for their trust and support!

It was an amazing summer, and we're already looking forward to the next one! Registration for next summer is already open, and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. For more information about the camp, visit the camp website, call 781-325-8285, or email info@almamaterstudio.org
